In order to become a successful angler you need to start with the proper fishing gear. You may end up purchasing or even own already the finest fishing gear that you can get your hands on but once it is assembled and put to use it just may prove to be a very decided handicap. In order to prevent this fishing gear imbalance it is important that the individual items of tackle be properly balanced with each other. Gear that is unbalanced has been the reason for difficulties and failures of beginner’s fisherman than any other reason. Fishing Rod In order to really enjoy fishing you need to fish with a good rod. It is so much easier to learn to how to fish with a good rod rather than one of inferior quality. This is by no means a sales page to encourage the sale of expensive rods as part of your fishing gear but rather a word of warning to prevent any possible or unnecessary discouragement because you are using a rod that would be classified as a handicap to a competent angler. Fishing Lines This particular item of fishing gear needs to be selected with careful consideration if you the angler is expected to enjoy fishing or casting. The reason that fishing lines is important to your fishing gear is that the size and weight of fishing line varies between manufacturers and are not entirely uniform. This means that the diameter of lines made by manufacturers may be slightly larger or smaller than lines made by other manufacturers even if both have the same same size marking. The Leader An important item of your fishing gear is your leader and unless it is selected with care and consideration in comparison to the size of your line, you will have trouble with the caster by making it extend straight out from the line while you are casting. The main purpose of the leader is to provide an invisible connection between the line and the lure. Fishing Flies or Lures The flies that you use may vary in size from the tiniest used fly properly around number 18 or 20, up to larger flies tied on number 2 hooks or larger. The heavier flies or lures that you use the more wind is needed. It also means that you require heavier equipment or more power from the caster during the back and forward cast. Reels The reel that you have in your fishing gear may be automatic or single action. Whatever reel that you do use it should be larger enough to hold on average 30 yards of fishing line without it crowding on the reel spool. The reel that you use should weigh in at around 1 ¼ to 1 ½ as much as what the bare rod weighs. The actual reel has no specific use in casting or fishing except as the use for storage place for the line. In order to achieve success in fishing your entire fishing gear should be in good condition and maintained as such. |
